The Canadian Palladium Maple Leaf is the latest addition to this particular coin collection produced by the RCM since 1979, first minted in 2005. Since its initial production, the palladium Maple Leaf has steadily increased its worth. As a result, it is one of the market's most high-demand national bullion coins.

The RCM became only the second Mint in the world to produce bullion coins for the investors market when they launched a gold edition Maple Leaf coin in 1979. In 1988, the Mint created and struck the Maple Leaf design in silver and platinum editions before finally releasing a palladium range. The coins are some of the world's most valuable bullion coins today.

The palladium coins have a face value of 50 Canadian Dollars. However, at a weight of one troy ounce, the value of the valuable metal is worth much more than this. The obverse of the palladium Maple Leaf displays a picture of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, one of the longest-serving heads of state in history. Canada has been part of the Commonwealth of Nations since the institution's foundation in 1931.

As Her Majesty's portrait signifies the legality of currency in the entire Commonwealth, it displays on the obverse of all Canadian currency. In 1988, the Maple Leaf range carried three different versions of her profile, representing the various stages of her reign. Since 2003, all Maple Leaf coins have included the monarch's profile designed by RCM engraver Susanna Blunt.
